Ukraine & NATO: Let the Game of Chicken Begin!

From Yahoo News: “Ukraine agrees to host NATO war games.”

Ukraine’s parliament on Tuesday approved a series of joint military exercises with NATO countries that would put US troops in direct proximity to Russian forces in the annexed Crimea peninsula.

“This is a good opportunity to develop our armed forces,” acting defence minister Mykhailo Koval told Verkhovna Rada lawmakers ahead of the 235-0 vote.

The decision came as NATO foreign ministers gathered in Brussels for a two-day meeting dominated by concern over the recent buildup of Russian forces near Crimea that US officials estimate had at one point reached about 40,000 troops.

NATO has sought to reinforce its eastern frontier after Russia’s takeover of Ukraine’s Black Sea peninsula and amid concerns about Kremlin’s emboldened foreign policy.

Russia on Monday reported pulling back a battalion of about 500 to 700 soldiers from the border region in a move that German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier called “a small sign that the situation is becoming less tense”.

Yes, this is a brilliant idea… let’s cement the idea that Russia is correct about the West seeking bases on their borders, in order to threaten them. Let’s make Putin an even bigger hero to Russians, and guarantee more power is put into his hands.

This is the exact kind of hubris that has led to all kinds of misery throughout history. Put massive forces in close proximity, and you ratchet up the chance of an “accident” that can start a war.

Of course, what Western elites really want are more Russian sanctions to create economic contraction—giving a suitable patsy to blame for problems they created by their own foolishness and cupidity—and depressing the price of key commodities which will then have to be ‘forward-sold’ at fire-sale prices by producers, so the big banks can buy them on the cheap, and then ride them back up again to fair value and great riches.

Unfortunately, while it’s a possibly brilliant plan, sometimes when you play games with people and nations things happen that upset your plans—and kill and harm a lot of people. When men see themselves as “Masters of the Universe” the True Master sometimes has a way of demonstrating they’re not.

God have mercy.
