Whenever most of us think about Washington DC, we think about all of the corruption in the federal government, starting in the White House. We hear about President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder breaking one federal law after another and violating the US Constitution on a regular basis. We hear about Congressmen and Senators violating campaign finance laws and other ethics violations.
As for myself, I also think of reports I heard a few years back that listed the number of births to unwed mothers being higher than the number to married mothers. Then there is the high crime rate in a town that has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation.
To add to all of the negative imagery that our nation’s capital has, you can add one more – cheaters. According to AshleyMadison.com, DC ranked number one for the most marital unfaithfuls per capita in the nation for the second year in a row.
Noel Biderman, founder and CEO of AshleyMadison.com, a company that claims to be ‘the world’s leading married dating service for discreet encounters,’ commented about the announcement by saying:
“With enormous public attention paid to political cheating scandals this year, including the Gen. Petraeus affair, there was no doubt that Washington residents would be influenced. Living in DC it’s crucial to keep up appearances and therefore adultery has become a way of life for many of the city’s most powerful residents.”
The website also states that Washington DC has the highest percentage of married men over the age of 50 that are seeking affairs.
After Washington DC, they list the rest of the top ten cheating cities as:
2. Austin, TX
3. Houston, TX
4. Miami, FL
5. Oklahoma City, OK
6. Richmond, VA
7. Boston, MA
8. Philadelphia, PA
9. Lincoln, NE
10. Phoenix, AZ
I wasn’t surprised to see Washington DC as the number one city for marital cheating. Considering the number one employer in the area is the federal government, and knowing how corrupt that is, then the cheating report fits right in the rest of Washington’s way of life. I’ve always been a fan of traditional country music and as I was reading the report, I couldn’t help but hear Hank William’s famous song in my head, Your Cheatin’ Heart.
