What a Shock: DOJ Refuses to Charge Lois Lerner

Barack Obama’s Justice Department will not charge Lois Lerner for her contempt of Congress and other criminal behavior.

No one is surprised by this. The only thing that makes it unbelievable is how shameless the Obama Administration can be.

Politico.com reports, “DOJ: No contempt charges for former IRS official Lois Lerner.”

The Justice Department will not seek criminal contempt charges against former IRS official Lois Lerner, the central figure in a scandal that erupted over whether the tax agency improperly targeted conservative political groups.

Ronald Machen, the former U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, told House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) in a seven-page letter this week that he would not bring a criminal case to a grand jury over Lerner’s refusal to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in March 2014. The House approved a criminal contempt resolution against Lerner in May 2014, and Machen’s office has been reviewing the issue since then.

Lerner and other IRS officials, however, are still under investigation by the FBI for the tea party targeting matter — which is a separate probe entirely.

I guess the Administration is not being quite as shameless as they could be. They decided to put off their announcement that they are not going to charge her for tea party targeting either. They’ll wait a bit before they make that perfunctory announcement.

This is yet another triumph of the Executive Branch over the Legislative Branch. By selective enforcement, non-enforcement, and sheer corruption, Barack Obama can do just about anything he wants. He can allow his allies in the IRS to openly lie to Congress (broken hard drives, missing emails) and everyone gets away with it. Remember, not only is Lois Lerner not being charged, but she earned huge bonuses for her work targeting the tea party. Now she lives on a taxpayer-funded pension.

So she hasn’t just “gotten away” with her corruption. She has been richly rewarded for it.
